A Case report of the patient with the pterygomandibular and temporal space abscess, DM






Abstract
A odontogenic infection is the most common difficult problem to manage in dentistrv. Also, when it spreads to fascial space in oral and maxillofacial region, it often threatens the patient life. So it must properly be treated early. Otherwise, Patients suffered in physical, economical, psycosocietical aspects, and it results in severe neurologic, respiratory,
hematogenic complication such as cavernous sinus thrombosis, medinastinitis, carotid sheath collapse, ect.
Especially, In patients having the medical problems such as DM, AIDS, chemotherapy, chronic steroid administration, : adiation therapy, Infection shoud be carefully controlled concomitantly with such problems.
The principles of treatment in odontogenic infection are proper locailzation, surgical intervention and antibiotics administration. Adequate location and extension of infection can be easily identified via diagnostic device as MRI, Cl.
A case of pterygomandibular and temporal space abscess with DM is described with literature review.
